Who Am I?
I began my career at Virginia Living, a regional lifestyle magazine in Richmond, Virginia. There, a few patient, seasoned editors taught me the fundamentals of reporting and producing quality journalism; think calling up sources, writing and editing to AP Style, and using proofreading marks.
After four years, I decided to take a chance on myself and move to New York City. I soon landed at Allured Business Media, a company that specializes in trade publications. There, I wrote news items for B2B audiences in the flavor, fragrance, cosmetics, and spa industries, and took my first ever trip to Chicago (Lou Malnati’s > Giorodano’s). I was eventually promoted to associate managing editor of Perfumer & Flavorist+, where I oversaw all aspects of editorial.
A chance meeting at an industry event led me to Byrdie. For nearly five wonderful, whirlwind years, I got a crash course in SEO and Google Discover, interviewed some of the coolest people for features I still can’t believe they let me write, took a million selfies for product reviews, stayed up late offering awards show commentary on Slack, and wrote more nail galleries in a couple of years than most people will ever read in their entire lives.
Now, I’m embarking on a new chapter. Currently, you can find my bylines at TZR (where I’m a beauty news writer on a part-time basis) and Marie Claire, with more to come. I’m also extremely excited to take on projects that will really allow me to embrace my passion for crafting narratives out of complex information, specifically those related to internal communications and brand education.
I have a BA in English from The College of William and Mary, which means I have strong opinions on race in Jane Eyre and the best thing to order from The Cheese Shop. Outside of writing and editing, I love going to the movies, am an avid podcast listener, and can spend hours on random Wikipedia pages or watching YouTube video essays.
